1. to help the students acquire "global literacy" and a sense of world citizenship through working on different multicultural themes; 2. to motivate the students to realize the necessity of having a positive attitude toward the idea of "Think Globally, Act Locally", and then promote the action toward solving world problems; 3. to encourage the students to deepen their understanding of cross-cultural differences, and to foster the understanding and respect for other peoples, their cultures, civilizations, values, and ways of life; 4. to allow the students to express themselves by creating their own media project, and then to understand the logic of the senders and recipients, which might promote critical thinking skills; 5. to provide the students with the opportunity to interact with each other productively through English; 6. to help the students understand the necessity for international solidarity and co-operation; 7. and to build a close relationship among the students of Russia, USA, Belgium, South Korea, Germany and Japan. These countries have promoted friendship and built up close relationship so far, and then have consequently influenced each other in many ways. However, they have somewhat failed in building solid connections due to misperceptions, prejudices and stereotypes, often fueled by mass media. Students from these five countries can gain meaningful and accurate information about each others' cultures through a media of their own creation and interaction on the Internet. The outcomes of this project will surely become a precious database of local culture and opinions about current global issues that can be shared between the students. With hope, they will be able to deepen their understanding of the world, and increase their knowledge of international society. The benefits of this type of grass-roots exchange project are limitless and it will pave the way for them to become true global citizens of the 21st century. |
