| Media Literacy Project 2001-2002 |
|
Main objectives This collaborative project is designated;
1. to increase the students' understanding of how the mass media
presents information, and the way in which it affects our opinions.
2. to make the students' aware of how the media often reconstructs reality
to reflect its own agenda.
3. to allow the students to express themselves by creating their
own media product, and then to understand the logic of the senders and
recipients.
4. to encourage the students to deepen their understanding of cross-cultural
differences, and to foster the development of a positive attitude when encountering
other cultures.
5. to provide the students with the opportunity to interact with each other
productively through English.
6. to build a close relationship between the students of South Korea
and Japan.
Although South Korea and Japan enjoyed a close relationship in ancient times, there are now many misperceptions, prejudices and stereotypes,
often fueled by the mass media on both sides. However, the students can gain meaningful
and accurate information about both cultures through media of their own creation and
interaction on the Internet. Furthermore, they will develop their critical
skills by accessing, analyzing, evaluating and creating their own media.
The results of this project are certain to become a precious database of local
culture and opinions about current global issues that could be shared with both
groups of students.
Hopefully, they will be able to deepen their understanding of the world, and
increase their knowledge of international society.
The benefits of this type of grass-roots exchange project are limitless.
Not only will it bring two groups of young people closer together, but it will
also pave the way for them to become true global citizens of the 21st century.
